I’ll be your Huckleberry
Matt and I rode some trails off Spruce Knob in WV (Huckleberry and Allegheny). We first rode up with Judd to WV’s highest point and took in the views. Judd headed off for some CX training on the forest roads while Matt and I dropped in on some of the most technical crap I’ve ever ridden. On par or harder than Michaux and the Shed. Take a look…not my pics (poached from the web) but it gives you the idea. Matt…send me some shots.
Eleven of us were staying near Franklin, WV at Kent Baake’s mountain house. The place is awesome – It sits on top of a mountain and with amazing views. It has a lookout tower built above the house with a zip line attached to it. There’s giant yoga studio, an indoor lap pool and hot tub, and huge deck for grilling. Pix to come, but suffice it to say its a great place.
So it was some dismay that what we expected to be a cool, 2 hour ride turned into a 5 hour death march – limiting our lounge time back at the mtn haus. The terrain, views, weather, etc. was awesome – we were just unprepared. Judd may have taken the worst of it…he had to wait at the car, freezing as the sun started going down behind the mountain, wondering if we died and whether his time was coming too.
