Friday Wrap

The weatherman lied this morning.  28 degrees my ass.  It had to be 20, 21 at best.  My face is stuck in a cryo-grin.

No trips to Europe anytime soon.  I had planned on attending a conference in the Netherlands in early April.  Timing was great as I’d get to watch the Tour of Flanders as well.  But with the US dollar dealing with major self esteem issues and dropping to its lowest levels against the Euro, the trip was scrapped.  Good thing, the dollar just dropped again over the past 3 days.  $1.52 gets you 1 Euro.

Oil reached $103 a barrel.  Did anyone here Bush at a news conference yesterday when a reporter asked about his thoughts on gasoline hitting $4/gallon this spring?  Bush’s response was “What? Huh, uh, uh, I didn’t here that”.  As if it was totally ridiculous and if he, Bush, hadn’t heard about it that it must be spin.  F*ing moron.  Analysts, right or wrong, have been suggesting gasoline would hit $4/gallon soon for weeks now.  In fact, you don’t even need more than a 6th grade education to see where things are headed.

Rhum rhymes with Yum.  A colleague gave me a bottle of Haitian rum after her holiday visit to see family.  It was a thank you gift for giving a lecture in her class last fall.  Nice gift that I enjoyed three times last night.  Needless to say, I slept like a baby.

Good weekend to all.

  1. Brabancourt?

  2. I laughed a little when Bush said that… then cried since our nation’s “leader” is such an ass. What a hole we have to dig out of. Not to mention he also talked about how due to ethanol production food and feed costs are rising. Bush’s ethanol plan at work folks, sure is a good thing he took action on the energy crisis. Now we’re only going to be stuck with a stagflation crisis. Oh yeah that’s right, energy is still f’d up too.

  3. People should drink more rum. It’s good stuff.

  4. gas did hit $4 this week in CA. as for the asshole’s comments, there were part of a great op-ed piece this week in the NYTimes here http://egan.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/05/oils-end/index.html
