Belgium 07′

A preview…

The plan is to fly into Amsterdam – wander around town for a few days and then head down to Brugge, Belgium for the start of the De Ronde Van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders). The town of Brugge or (Bruges) is awesome. Small, quaint, and full of places to get great beer, mussels, and chocolate. Based on those few things, persuading Kim to go back for another visit and include spectating this great spring classic bicycle race doesn’t require much work. We hope some others (Judd, Sonja, Drew, Steph, Alex, Lara, etc) will join. Perhaps we can get Jens and Karen to buzz in from their new digs in Albequerque, NM.

We will head over to Ghent – a bit bigger town than Brugge, but still small enough to feel cozy. Great food and beer selections await there as well. The midweek classic – Ghent-Wevelgem takes place on Wednesday and offers another chance to see the pros go to work (as we go to work on many dubbels and tripels).

Finally, we’ll head south and witness the finish to the “Hell of the North” – Paris-Roubaix – on Sunday.

Think the Belgians like racing? – look at those crowds…and carnage.

3 races – 1 week. Lots of beer.

  1. damn… sounds like a good trip. bring the bike – isn’t there an amateur tour of flanders 3 days before the real one?

  2. Yep – that is something we might have to consider…

  3. Wow – You lucky rtraveller – get it all in now, b/c if/when you and Kim decide to hatch some little ones – travelling becomes, let’s say “more interesting”. Been to Bruges as you know back in ’88 – man do I sound old – 1988 seems like a century ago, yet when I hear The Cure or Siouxsie and the Banshees on Sean’s satelitte radio, I feel like it’s only a minute ago.
